UV-C rays can kill every living organism by destroying their DNA. Despite the power of this radiation, it is not harmful to the environment and thanks to the Blast UV™ design there is no safety risk for whoever uses the steriliser.
UV-C radiation is invisible, but the Blast UV™ Disinfector allows you to visibly follow its action through the thermochromic dots on the outside of the box. The LED lights Bombol uses for the box are 5 to 10 times stronger than those in most sterilisers. In order to be able to fully disinfect the bottom of an object as well, Bombol came up with a suspended surface. So you can be certain your items are completely sterilised 360°.
The Blast UV™ Disinfector has three safety mechanisms to ensure that the radiation stays inside of the box.
- Strong magnets: the magnets make sure the box closes tightly.
- Sensors: the sensors turn off the steriliser as soon as they detect an opening.
- Porex Virtek® lining: this inner lining makes sure that the UV-C light is scattered inside the box, but cannot get outside.
- Natural disinfection, no harmful chemicals
- UVC light: kills 99,99% of bacteria, inactivates 99,99% of viruses
- 5 min cycle, low enery consumption

Yes. Blast UV™ does not contain a battery, so you can drop it either in your carry-on bag or check-in baggage.
Blast UV™ comes with a USB-C to USB-A cable and requires a USB-C power input of 5V/1A. Blast UV™ can be powered by a USB-A wall adapter, car charger, computer or any power bank, so it is easy to use anywhere, any time.
No. Many UV-C disinfectors or sanitizers like the wand models can accidentally expose the user to direct UV-C light. These cannot pass the safety regulations, and therefore cannot be certified.
Blast UV™ is safe and certified because it is designed to turn on ONLY when the 3 safety interlocks are all engaged so the disinfection chamber is completely sealed. If the box is accidentally opened when the UV-C LEDs are on, they will be instantly switched off. This safety mechanism is independently certified by UL. The UVC disinfection process will resume once the box is closed again.
In addition, the Porex Virtek® is one of the few high-tech UL-F2 certified materials, meaning it acts as a barrier to UV-C light.
These two features combined guarantee there is no risk to accidental high-energy UV-C light exposure.
While UV-C tube lamps are still used in many UV-C sanitizers today, it’s an old technology with many downsides. They are not power-efficient, contain lots of mercury, are fragile and can take up to 30 minutes warm up time resulting in long disinfection times. They can also produce heat and harmful ozone. They’re also short lived with a maximum operating life of around 1000 hours, meaning they are likely to stop working after only a few months of use. Lastly, they will be globally banned soon because of the mercury toxicity thanks to the Minamata Convention.
UV-C LEDs on the other side - like those used in Blast UV™ - have high efficiency and low power consumption, are mercury-free and shock-resistant, activate instantly and last up to 10,000 hours or approximately 10 years of normal daily use. This makes them the best choice for a portable UV-C disinfector.
UV-C light is harmful to all living organisms, including humans. So never check by looking at a working LED as UV-C light is invisible anyways.
That is why we designed a clever way to show you safely on the outside that the UV-C LEDs on the inside are working correctly. Each of the 3 LED’s has a corresponding black thermochromic dot on the outside of top lid. When the UV-C LEDs are switched on, they warm up, which in turn makes the thermochromic dots change from black to red. Once the cycle is finished, the LED’s cool instantly, and the thermochromic dots slowly turn back to black. It’s a simple yet reliable way for Blast UV™ to make the invisible visible, safely.
If it fits, you can disinfect it. Some of the most common items you can disinfect are pacifiers, baby bottles, cutlery, phones, face masks, keys, jewellery, watches, remote controls, eyeglasses, pens, wallets, credit cards, and makeup.
Blast UV™ can also fit the largest models of the most popular brands including Apple, Samsung, Huawei and Xiaomi as well as an 11 ounces baby milk bottle.
Yes. While it is true that prolonged exposure to UV rays can discolour certain materials, the level of UV-C exposure during a disinfection cycle is enough to destroy germs, bacteria and inactivate viruses but not nearly enough to damage your devices or objects in any way.
UV-C light is not it corrosive unlike many disinfecting chemicals, making UV-C disinfection by far a safer alternative for your objects.
Yes! Blast UV™ was tested by UL and SGS International to certify the compliance with:
• The safety international standards such as American UL499, Canadian CSA 22.2 n64, European EN 60335-1
• The electromagnetic standards EMC and FCC.
• The chemical substance regulations REACH and ROHS standards that means it is free of lead, phthalate, and other banned, harmful substances.
• Blast UV™ doesn’t create or release harmful ozone.
SGS Laboratories tested the efficacy against bacteria such as Staphylococcus Aureus and Escherichia Coli and virus such as Human Coronavirus 229E (ASTM and TGA Sars-Cov-2 recommended surrogate). Inactivation rate was more than 99.999% for bacteria and more than 99.99% for the virus tests.
Don't just take our word for it. Blast UV™ was tested by SGS International to certify the efficacy against bacteria and viruses. The test was not performed with the pathogens up close to the LEDs, but 75 mm distance which is the furthest point an object can be from the LEDs inside Blast UV™.
And even at that distance, Blast UV™ delivers a blistering UV-C Dose of 80mJ/cm2 that is 10 times the amount of energy you need to inactivate common bacteria.
First, the Porex Virtek® lining has a 360° Lambertian reflective effect. It means that it scatters the reflected UV-C light in all directions, reaching every corner inside Blast UV™. Second, your object sits suspended on a transparent surface, so the UV-C light can reach the underside of your object.
These two design features means that you don’t need to flip your object over for a second disinfection cycle.
It is common believe that mirror or metallic surfaces reflect all light, but the truth is they absorb quite a bit of the UV-C light. To make the most from the all the UV-C light from the powerful LED’s, Blast UV™ uses the high-tech Porex Virtek® lining that reflects more than 80% of the UV-C light, thus intensifying the UV-C dose at the surface of the object.
Unlike metallic or reflective surfaces, Porex Virtek® is also UL-F2 certified, meaning it cannot oxidize or be altered by UV-C light so it will remain efficient over time.
And last, the UL-F2 certification means that Porex Virtek® is a guaranteed barrier against the high energy UV-C radiation. A bit like lead for radioactive radiation. In other words, it makes sure no harmful UV-C light can escape.
To guarantee enough UV-C radiation everywhere - even at the bottom of Blast UV™ - we use 3 ultra-powerful, sapphire, gold-plated 20mW UV-C LEDs.
Blast UV™ has a disinfection rate of 99.9998% for the tested bacteria Staphylococcus Aureus and Escherichia Coli (SGS Test Report n. GZF20-026061-01) and 99.9921% for the Human Coronavirus 229E (SGS Test Report n. XMF20-007600-01), compared to the average disinfection rate of 99.9% for bacteria of most UV-C disinfecting or sanitizing devices out there.
To compare, you should not look at the UV-C source power output, but the “UV-C dose”. It means that to be fully disinfected, an object needs to be exposed by strong enough UV-C radiation for a long enough period of time from all sides.
Thanks to the combination of the 3 ultra-powerful UV-C LEDs to make sure the UV-C radiation is still strong enough when it reaches the bottom of Blast UV™ and the ultra-reflective UV-C lining to make the most of the emitted UV-C light, Blast UV™ delivers a blistering UV-C dose of 80mJ/cm2 in 5 minutes. That’s almost 10 times what is needed to kill common bacteria in lab test conditions.
No, not all UV light is capable of sanitizing. UV light can be divided in 3 major categories: UV-A, UV-B, and UV-C based on their wavelengths.
• UV-A (315 nm to 400 nm) gives you that nice summer tan.
• UV-B (280 to 315 nm) is less friendly and responsible for sun burns.
• UV-C (100 nm to 280 nm) is the most dangerous because it is extremely effective at disrupting the genetic makeup of any living organism.
This is why only UV-C light is highly effective in killing bacteria and inactivating viruses.
UV-C light disinfection utilizes the shortest wavelength of the ultraviolet light. At these wavelengths, the high-energy light waves destroy the nucleic acids and break apart DNA and RNA of any living organism, preventing bacteria and viruses to reproduce.
UV-C light does not leave chemical residues behind, does not produce harmful smelly ozone and produces no waste. It kills the nasties without hurting the planet.
A quick wipe with sanitizing or disinfecting wipes does not disinfect an object. They only work on hard surfaces and not on soft ones like fabric.
Disinfecting wipes contain chemical solutions that need time to work, generally a few minutes. During this “contact time”, you should leave the disinfectant on the surface without drying or rinsing it. After the contact time is up, you can rinse off the chemical residue.>
These chemical solutions, including disinfecting alcohol, can also damage certain surfaces like touch screens. All mobile device companies prohibit the use of disinfectants on their screens. Some allow for a ‘gentle application’ of 70% isopropyl alcohol (70% IPA), but this concentration is not strong enough to kill all the germs.
