Rocking helps your baby sleep

Getting your baby to sleep doesn't always happen naturally. Sometimes it takes forever, or you have to walk around endlessly or rock them in your arms. That's not surprising, because babies naturally love movement. Rocking is one of the most familiar and calming ways for them to relax.

Sleeping like in mommy's belly

From the very beginning, your baby is gently rocked. Every step you take, every movement you make, he feels it. No wonder rocking after birth still has such a comforting effect. It reminds him of that safe place where it all began.

Movement helps your baby sleep better

Gentle, rhythmic movements, such as rocking or walking, can really make a difference. Research shows that they help babies fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. Why is that? These movements calm the nervous system and stimulate the production of sleep hormones such as melatonin. Exactly what your baby needs to relax.
This is also why many parents notice that their babies sleep better in a stroller or fall asleep during a car ride. It's all about the movement.

Your arms get tired

As wonderful as rocking is, it's also very tiring, especially when you haven't had much sleep yourself. Fortunately, there are aids available that mimic the same soothing motion without you having to do all the work yourself. This allows you to catch your breath while your baby calms down.

The Baby Rocker from Sleepytroll is one such aid. It is an automatic, rechargeable baby swing with sound and motion sensors that you can easily attach to (almost) any stroller or to the crib, bed, park, or bouncer (with accessories). There are five different intensity levels to choose from and it can be used in any environment, as it is water-resistant.

Creating healthy sleeping habits

Rocking can certainly be part of a healthy sleep routine, especially in combination with other signals such as white noise, swaddling, or a bedtime ritual. Over time, your baby will recognize these movements as a reassuring signal: “it's now safe to relax.”

Rocking does not mean that you are “spoiling” your baby, but that you are supporting your little one in a phase where he or she relies on you for comfort and regularity. And with the right tools, this does not have to be at the expense of your own rest.

In short: rocking works!
Don't be afraid, ashamed, or shy about using modern tools that make life a little easier.
