5 fun things to do with kids on a rainy day

As the weather in our climate can be unpredictable, it’s not always easy to schedule outdoor activities for your family during the vacations. Let alone keep your children occupied for long periods of time without a screen. With these 5 indoor activities you’ll always have something fun to do with your kids if the weather suddenly turns foul.

Build a fort

It is a classic, true, but it is always a hit with young and old alike! And be honest, what is more fun than creating a secret hide-away under the table? The big advantage: you don’t need much and it ensures hours of fun. Clear the table, throw some blankets and sheets over it and you’re done!

Time for a rest? Snuggle up together under a blanket and read a book together in your fort. This will instantly relax both you and your child!

Open-ended toys

Wouldn’t it be great if you had some solid and durable toys that your kids will never get tired of and that they can play with for years and years? It sounds impossible, and yet they exist, namely open-ended toys. This group of toys provides infinite playing possibilities, and keeps both younger and older children entertained!

Educational and screen-free play

We cannot imagine our lives without our television, tablet and smartphone, and they are easy ways to keep your children occupied for a while. However, if you are looking for an alternative, the TIMIO audio player is perfect as it provides hours of screen-free entertainment!

Thanks to the various expansion packs available, TIMIO offers a wide range of songs, words, stories and sounds in 8 different languages. It will entertain your child for a long time and at the same time challenges him to learn new things. Win-win!

Get creative in the kitchen

Children often enjoy baking or cooking. Don’t make it too hard for yourself and go for an easy recipe. Go online for kid-friendly kitchenware, such as childproof knives, kid-sized baking utensils, aprons etc. In short: everything your little one needs to be a real chef!

By the way, did you know that you can easily make playdough yourself? This way you kill two birds with one stone: your children can help make it and they will enjoy playing with it for months! You can use the OXO Tot storage boxes to store each colour separately.

BABYmatters tip: Try to let go of the idea that a kitchen should be clean and pristine, because cooking and baking with kids = a big mess!

Exercise together

Pull the curtains so that the room is dark, get some fun lights (such as fairy lights, night lights, candles...) and put on your favourite party playlist. It’s party time!

Prefer something more relaxing? You can find numerous yoga videos for young and old online.

Is your baby still a bit too small for his first real dance party? Put on some quiet music and dance around the room with your baby in the carrier!
