How do I choose the right sleeping bag?

During the colder months of the year, it is important that your child is warm enough while sleeping. A swaddling sleeping bag or classic sleeping bag is then the best and safest choice for your little one! In this blog you will find some useful tips and tricks to guide you in choosing the right sleeping bag.

Why a (swaddling) sleeping bag?

Babies have a harder time regulating their body temperature than adults. It is therefore important that they are warm enough during the colder nights. Sleeping bags made from natural materials, such as those from ergoPouch, help regulate your little one's temperature while allowing the skin to breathe. Moreover, a sleeping bag is much safer than loose blankets, because of suffocation hazard!

But ... the use of a sleeping bag can also contribute to a fixed sleep routine. For example, putting it on indicates that it is almost bedtime and creates a quiet environment, which ensures a better night's sleep. In short, win-win!

Which sleeping bag do you choose?

TOG stands for Thermal Overall Grade and is the common unit of measurement for insulation and warmth of sleep textiles, so a higher TOG will provide more warmth. In cold weather, a TOG value of 2.5 to 3.5 is generally best for keeping your baby warm!

That's why every ergoPouch product includes a handy thermometer and changing guide, so you can easily find the best way to dress your little one for each nap.

How do I choose the right size?

Choosing the right size is essential for a safe and comfortable sleeping environment. It is therefore recommended to follow the guidelines (concerning weight, height, age...) when choosing a suitable sleeping bag, as these are designed to ensure a good fit and optimal comfort!

To meet safety requirements, Cocoon swaddling bags have a secure fit around the neck, shoulders and chest to prevent a baby from slipping in. For the right fit, you should be able to insert two fingers into the neck opening. It is recommended that you switch to the next size up once your child meets the weight requirements.

Below you will find a handy size chart, applicable to ergoPouch.
